Nostalgia in neon, the Daffodil Motel sign shines into the night.
The motel sits along a stretch of Highway 99 between Federal Way and Tacoma that has changed little in the sixty odd years I’ve been traveling that road. Every time I pass by, I am instantly transported to the 1950s, sitting in the back seat of our 1948 Plymouth watching the world whiz by as we drove to our family dentist in Tacoma for a white-knuckled, fear filled appointment. Can I tell you I still have the same reaction to dentist appointments these days? But I go faithfully anyway.. hmmm I wonder what sedation dentistry is like.. naw I’m tough!
Madge, you sure do capture neon beautifully. Great sign. So nostalgic.
What a great name! It reminds me of something that might be in one of Sue Grafton’s mystery novels! Do you have a special tip for photographing neon?
Truly awesome. Great capture Madge.
it is very pretty, actually!
i tried to leave a comment on your delicious caramel apple photo yesterday, but i couldn’t get google reader to pull up your page for me. but they looked yummy!
Apt, as I saw my dentist Monday (and get to see him again soon). And that is great neon!
They certainly have their name up in lights… that’s for sure! Great stuff!
So nice to see that it is still there, I remember those kind of neon signs from when I was a kid.
Very nice shot. I never can get shots in the dark. Yours looks so good.
Oh those neon lights are pretty : )
What a great neon sign! You hardly see many of these anymore.
That really is a great sign. Do some deep breathing the next time you head to the dentist…really helps : )
Isn’t that darling? So sixties. I love your picture!
Beautiful Sign. You capturedit well.
I am just like a moth drawn to a flame when it comes to old signs and sites like this! I just wanted to drop by to wish you a Merry Christmas…….early. I am taking a break from blogging to be with my family! blessings,Kathleen
Very nice shot, and nice to see that the old sign seems to be doing well. I can’t recall that I’ve seen floral neon like that, old or new.
I hope there’s no relationship between the caramel apples yesterday and the trip to the dentist today. . . ; – }
