Along a very rural stretch of narrow two-lane blacktop on the outskirts of the tiny southeastern Washington town of Albion, is Grey Duck Garlic Farm.
: : :
A small organic farm,
Grey Duck grows heirloom garlic varieties.
The day I drove by the farm in very early spring,
the ground was just beginning to warm under the thin rays of the April sun.
The rich soil of the Palouse made even richer by supplemental organic fertilizer
and compost makes the perfect medium for the growing bulbs.
: : :
I love the contrast between this farmer’s blue clothing,
red wheel barrow and the rustic grey weathered barn in the background.
: : :
It was so quiet,
you could almost ‘hear’ the garlic growing.
Almost.

Cool shot- I don’t think I have ever seen a garlic farm! I like the old weathered barn.
Very interest name for a farm. I’m used to seeing farmers on tractors. This one in your photo is what I would expect from someone working in their backyard garden. It’s a nice find on your part Madge.
PS: I hope everything is going well for you.
i love garlic! i like the colors in this too…good morning :)
I bet it smelled great too! Love the aroma of fresh garlic. :) Thanks for hosting Madge. xo
All the colors are fantastic. I’m a color girl. Nothing pale for me. The interspersed color of those stakes are important to the shot too.
I had no idea there were such things as garlic farms. I knew, of course, garlic was a plant and I don’t know how I supposed we would get so much to supply the world with it, but wow…a whole farm dedicated to garlic! That’s a lot!
Wonderful shot of this garlic farm. I mean… who knew there were garlic farms? Guess I should have since we eat so much of it in our food.
I live in California where Gilroy is the garlic capital of the world, don’t you know? It’s very fragrant driving through and of course they have the huge garlic festival every year with all things garlic.
Love the ‘action’ shot in the garden ~ time to ‘dig in the dirt’ ~ ^_^ ~ Happy Day to You ^_^
what a wonderful shot .. i say that a lot but i mean it .. you are one of the best photographers i know!
Thanks Daryl… ;-)
The colors in the photo are fabulous – great contrast.
The garlic looks so green! I’m a big fan of garlic. :))
That’s a wonderful photo that you’ve shared with us this week. It reminds me of home.
Have a good week
The colorful stakes added a wonderful pop of color!
My hubby would love to sample some produce there.
A belated Happy Birthday!
The other day I posted a mug with 60 on it and my husband asked me if I was going to tell my age. I told him sure, that it didn’t really matter. :)
You find the most interesting places to photograph Madge. I’ve never seen a garlic farm. The old barn is neat.
love your description of the morning. :)
Yes I’m wondering how it smelled? Great spring shot.
Happy Belated Birthday and many good wishes on your upcoming surgery!
I love the colored stakes best of all.
We have a one-man garlic farm north of Elgin. He has become quite noted for his work, and I follow his farm year on Facebook. (He’s also married to one of my former students, who is now the elementary school principal!)
What a colorful shot! I do love cooking with garlic.
I’ve never visited a garlic farm. Nice rural shot with lots of interest.
Definitely love the colours of that photo! Great shot. : )
This is such a beautiful peaceful scene. I’m wondering if once the garlic starts to grow, you’ll be able to smell it, too.
So, as with onion fields…which strongly smell like onion, is it the same with garlic? Another beautiful photo…agree on the contrasting colors~lovely!
That is a great shot! I can hardly wait to get my hands in the dirt. :-)
What a pretty shot!
Never really thought of a “garlic farm”. :) Very cool!
Nice shot showing how it’s done♫ My R shot: http://lore-eleven.blogspot.com/2013/04/barn-light.html
I forgot to link on Sunday so rather cheekily linked here instead as my photo is rural anyway! Love the splash of colour from the ground markers in your shot.
Great photograph! I hope you’re feeling okay.
Interesting shot…I like the different colored stakes in the field of garlic. Adds a nice little piece of chaos to a quiet scene.
Looks like a nice farm.
Beautiful, you are giving me serious spring fever!
A wonderful observation photo and lovely commentary too.
Doesn’t it look wonderful there! Oh that pretty green and fresh dirt!! Love it.
xo Catherine
Excellent contrasts! I love garlic. I never really thought about how or where it’s grown but this is neat!
That is a lovely picture with all the different colors! :)
What a great photo! I have never seen a garlic farm before!
Again – people at work with their hands, my favorite.
I also like the multi-colored row markers / small posts.
A wonderful rural image!
Sorry to have missed this round. I’m a big fan (waving arms/hands) of your photography and the meme.
Yes, some very pretty colors!
