No reading, writing nor arithmetic going on here anymore. What once was the Columbia School just outside Dayton, WA on Columbia School Road is now an abandoned single family home. I can well imagine that this two-room school house would have been beautiful in the days it served this small rural, community in south central eastern Washington. Unfortunately, when it was used as a home, it was not well kept and sits now empty, old cars in the yard and very run down. Too bad, I like the look of this place.
Hoping you all have a good day, I’m still off work ill…hoping I’ll be well enough to return to work tomorrow.
Thanks for joining me today, for the view that is right here! ~ Madge

I do love these old abandoned places… it’s a terrible shame it wasn’t kept up, the history alone would be worth it.
This is such a great photo! It’s so full of mood!!!
Too bad that no one is looking after the old school. I met a painter a few years ago, he bought a house that was once used as a school. He invited me to have a look around, it was a beautiful home.
What a shame – I can imagine all the sunlight hitting those great front windows! Great pic Madge!
What a fine place it was, a faded glory to it now but rather sad. Get well soon Madge.
Madge, great photo. I really like these old historic places. I’m sure many memories surround this old place.
Probably to late now to restore an old building like that?
Take care, be well..
such a shame.
Hopefully, someone will restore it. I suspect it would be a neat project.
It’s beautiful, an aged old lady with her faded beauty. I do hope someone rescues her, she just needs a haircut and a little make-up! Great Photo – I am glad to hear you are feeling a little better. xx
Beautiful building. I hope someone brings her back to life!
Great photo-kinda looks creepy and for sure sad and lonely.
this is so great… wonderful post processing, giving it that wonderful vintage feel. I will need to seek this building out!
So glad you shared the photo and story. It’s nice to remember..
So sorry to hear you’re STILL ill! I hope you’re feeling better soon(er)!
You’ve captured quite a mood here with the lighting and exposure. What a beautiful and sad old building. It’s a shame to see it so rundown.
So sad to see it in such condition. I too imagine it was spectacular in its early days.
Wow- to think of all the things those walls have seen. Amazing! Hope you feel better soon.
Hello Madge, thank you for visiting. Give the socks a go, since I have learned to knit them on a circular needle, I am non stop.
Your photo is nostalgic, I would love to be able to restore such a gorgeous building to its former glory and even better with the fantastic material at our disposal these days.
Take care. :)
Love this photo!
Bet this was a beautiful place in its prime.
Hope you will feel better and better.
Still an impressive and beautiful building!

Such a haunting image, Madge. It’s too bad that it will continue on its path to non-existence.

It would have been a lovely home — so sad to see it in its rundown condition.

Breaks my heart to see it abandoned. Great photo however, wonderful capture.
I bet it was a real beautiful school in its day…would love to see it renovated now…
You photos tell such great stories, this one is so mysterious…
Your treatment of this photo really gave it a great look, very fitting to the shape it’s in.
Just needs a little TLC.
Great photo. Too bad they let it get so run down but I know from experience those old houses take a lot of effort.
Thanks for visiting me.
Good bones to that house – and probably a good story or two. I’m sorry to read you are not feeling well – I wish you a speedy recovery.
