Wine on the vine… Yakima County in south central Washington State is part of the premier wine producing region of the Columbia Valley. Around 11,000 acres are covered in vineyards in the Yakima Valley, some places where you’ll find vineyards and wineries in and around the valley are the Rattlesnake Hills, Horse Heaven Hills, Snipes Mountain, Red Mountain, Columbia Gorge and Piety Flats. Washington ranks second nationally in wine production, with over 700 wineries and 37,000 acres planted in vineyards. The number of acres in production has more than tripled since 1998. Western Washington also produces wine grapes, but it is only 1% of the total production in the state. The more commonly grown varietals are Riesling, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Chardonnay. This coming weekend is ‘Catch the Crush,’ event in Yakima Valley, beginning on September 24. Of the many growers and vintners in the Valley, fourteen vineyards will be offering special wine tasting events, harvest and crush activities, tours, live music, hors de’oeuvres. Sounds like a photo trip to Yakima Valley is in order, don’t you thinK?
Absolutely Madge, sounds like a fantastic event, love your image today it looks so mellow, unlike Perth this morning, it’s rainy and blustery!
Thanks, Grace… it is raining this morning here in Seattle too. I’m hoping we can make the trip to Yakima for the weekend event…
Your Photos are just amazing. Thanks for your comment. I laughed once the smell dissipated. I was very thankful that the skunk got the grass more than the dog.
Thanks for stopping by,
Kim
Thanks, Kim… you’re post really tickled me.. so sounds like our place. This morning I had to hide my hands under my pillow and pretend I was asleep to get my cat Gelly to leave me alone about four o’clock, she was hungry.
What great color in this shot. That sounds like a fun event I can’t wait to see the photos.
Thanks, Randy… I’m hoping to get some good shots! ;-)
If we lived in the area I would definitely be taking a road trip! Like Kim said, this photo is sweet. :-) thanks for taking the time to post these.
Thanks… yes, road trips are a lot of fun!
YUM! And I’m not crazy about grapes, but you’ve made them look divine!!
Thank you, Sherry… they DO look luscious!
Your header photo is ***fabulous***!!
Thanks, Sandra…! I always enjoy the view from your porch when I visit you, too!
Lovely shot! Reminds me of California’s Sonoma and Napa Valleys, which I’m missing a bit as the weather here starts turning chilly. . .
Thanks, Kay… I haven’t been in California in about forty years… but I’d go for a warmer day or two, as well… if the weatherman isn’t pulling our leg, maybe tomorrow will be 70 degrees, I’ll take it! Won’t you??
The light on the leaves is wonderful and the grapes look so delicious.
Thank you… the light was quite magical up close under the vines…
Hi Madge…looks like a shot right out of a magazine. Great colors and composition!
Thanks, Bruce… it was gorgeous in those vineyards!
