Closed… Dusty… Fading… Winona, Washington…I’ll bet that most Washingtonians have never heard of it. I hadn’t either until I traveled across central Eastern Washington between Endicott and Lind. This storefront in Winona, a very small Whitman County town would have been a place of bustling community activity at one time, but now it stands testament to the shrinking of rural, small town America. Henderson’s was probably the grocery store serving this farming community and Harvest Cream Bread, sounds delicious doesn’t it?
this is a beautiful old door, i think I smell bread baking, or at least wish i did.
I agree… just the name Harvest Cream, brings pleasant imaginings!
what a great doorway…
I agree…
Nice door, I agree. Well spotted Madge.
Thanks, Paul… it was just one of those moments, when you pull off the two lane road and there it is…
Oooooo let’s Google it and see what we come up with. Maybe they just moved:-)
Actually, I have Googled ‘Harvest Cream Bread,’ and never found anything…
Very cool door!
Happy Weekend Madge!

Thanks, Catherine!
I like that narrow wooden door. Still standing strong.
No grocery carts here… the door is not wide enough… I’m thinking 1940s??
Love that old screen door. Great find Madge!
I do too, Randy… it so evokes memories of an earlier time…
Wonderful image! Makes me wonder how long it’s been closed, when it operated. Shots like these are so evocative & beg for stories.
I’ve always thought the 1940s, the doorway is too narrow for a grocery cart, even the kind we used in the 1950s… I agree about stories and I’d love to know more…
