Seattle Public Library’s flagship facility is located in the heart of the downtown business district on Third Avenue, covering the block between Madison and Spring Streets. The ‘exoskeleton’ (unsure how else to describe it) of the building has diamond shaped windows with floor to floor views. Beginning on the 10th floor if you follow the walkway, you wind down in an odd spiral from one floor to the next, or of course take the escalators or elevators.
The 4th floor is a series of conference rooms. Stepping off the elevator into the cherry red hallway is surprising and for me almost nauseating (at first). Here I’ve caught a patron in a yellow safety jacket walking through part of the circular central hallway on the floor. I spent only about a half hour wandering there, shooting and watching, then I was quite ready for the real world of light and and normal color.

They don’t want people to stay too long;) – at least not in this red area.
Wow – what an amazing color for a hallway – kind of makes one want to hurry on through!
That’s a crazy color choice for a slick and shiny wall. I believe it would nauseate me also.
Wow! I thought that was lighting at first. That is a seriously red hall!
Simply stunning- a wondrefully atmospheric photo Madge!
This is the reason we should always carry our cameras…that color is unbelievable! And what a chance meeting…that guy in the bright yellow against that screaming red. Personally, I don’t know if my eyes could take it! LOL
YOU are an inspiration, Madge!
awesome photo Madge!!!
Sorry I’m tardy — I’ve been riding around with the trapper all day! :)
Love that red in combo with the yellow !!
I think I would feel a little strange walking down there!
Madge, I’m with you…that bright color does make me a bit wobbly as well. It’s a great photograph though…love the figure in yellow, smack in the middle.
A jarringly red hallway, but with the figure in yellow and the reflections, it makes a spectacular photo!

Wow. That is one eye popping photo. Outstanding.
Incredible shot but I can see how all that red would be a bit disconcerting.
Wow, that’s bright.
Oh, that is bright red!
A stunning shot, but yes, a bit too vivid to be there in person!
YiKeS! I can see how that might be nauseating… that’s a whole lota red! =)
That really is cherry red! Quite the cool photo, too! I like the modern, yet abstract feel to it.
I love this shot! Truly is a bright cherry red.
Lovely, shiny cherry red! Dazzling shot! It is great the way you have captured all those reflections.
Lovely shot, Madge! Thanks for hosting.
Enjoy the new week!
Wonderfully vibrant photo!
that is such a strong vibrant contrast … great catch!
Neat contrast between the red, red hall and the yellow jacket. I don’t think I’d want to spend very much time in that hallway though. ;)
Cherry red – is there a colour more vibrant? A great capture Madge.
Great image, Madge! Catching that bright yellow jacketed figure too, really makes it pop. It’s a marvelous building.
Wonderful photo, a red hallway full of beauty, excellent reflexes. Greetings.
I hope you had your dark specs with you Madge – seems like people aren’t encouraged to linger in that area. A well spotted photo opportunity.
How Colorful!
What an awesome photo!!!
Wow! Now that is red! I definitely would have been caught off guard by that.
