Rural road, gravel or blacktop, always draw me off the freeways.
: : :
Rather than look at graded shoulders
and multiple lanes of gentle curves and no more than 6% grades,
I opt for crazy curves and steep grades with real life ripe for the viewing with each passing mile.
: : :
Considered ‘blue highways’ on road maps,
I love to see and photograph what’s there, the farms, the towns, the countryside.
: : :
Here,
a rural gravel road
in the Palouse gives its gift of visual pleasure.
The beauty,
the solitude soothes my soul
and refreshes my spirit.
What about you?

Beautiful landscapes and great shot! Feels like I’m standing on the road.
That scene looks like spring to me — ground just starting to show some green. So beautiful!
It is early spring… I have to travel to the far corner of the state to get these! It’s about a six hour drive… that’s of course if you don’t stop, I do that a lot.. it takes me a long time to arrive in Colfax!
Madge – it certainly looks like a road I would travel (or possibly in my youth already did). A beautiful and inviting scene.
i much rather take the back roads than the freeway….pretty scenery!
You picked a fine place to stop and take a shot. Beautiful country.
Some of God’s amazing handy-work!
Serenity in the simple things, Madge. I see you took this in the spring, perfect for taking in the prospect of a new season and beginning.
Just looking at that photo makes me want to take a deep breath!
You’re right…those back roads are where the real beauty is.
Funny…when I think of Washington, I think of mountains and bays. But, these rolling hills and prairies are really pretty. This area has certainly given you lots of beautiful scenes, to share with us.
I always prefer the “blue roads” as opposed to the interstate! What a beautiful picture, thanks for sharing it with us! :)
What a lovely place to take a drive!
Looks like the perfect place for a walk.
Beautiful road! I love the little creek that follows the road.
Now that’s a view I could get used to! I love this :)
Excellent photo! that beauty of tone in the sky and on earth, beautiful scenery …!!
Country back roads are the very best!
Wonderful photo invites one ‘right in’ ~ Great composition and colors ~ Thank ^_^
This is an excellent landscape. I like the composition with the roadway and ditch with water. Overall, a strong, appealing image.
We love the back roads – and the Palouse is one of our very favorite areas for back roads. We hope to visit again soon.
Gorgeous, Madge! It makes me want to take a walk down that road!
All your shots from this week are great Madge. I especially like the old school house. Thanks for sharing.
When I opened this today and saw this picture…I said, “Oh what a SWEET view”, Madge…you got it all in one picture!!!!
Love all the elements in this photo….nicely balanced how you framed it, plus the water color is so blue….
This is a pretty scene. I would enjoy a drive or a hike in this area.
