Barefoot Contessa Cookbooks

Cookbooks, so full of vibrant photographs of food that sounds and looks appealing to the eyes and the appetite.

Having not been called yet to come into work for ‘light duty,’

out of sheer boredom I took a tour of one of our upscale grocery stores,

Metropolitan Market.

They have everything a regular grocery would carry

plus high end products I don’t find in our regular grocery store of choice,

Winco.

Winco offers the best prices around,

they are owned and operated by the employees themselves.

But they carry just run of the mill, ho-hum items.

The Metropolitan Market in West Seattle

is a nice spot to kill time

and cruise the aisles looking at all the stuff

I won’t buy because of price.

But it’s fun nonetheless.

In the housewares section,

there are shelves full of baking pans,

tea pots, coffee pots,

cutting boards, measuring cups,

utensils, pepper mills,

table linens, serving dishes

and cookbooks.

I’ll hazard a guess that they carry nearly as many

and variety of cookbooks

as any local book store.

Here I spotted a line of two by two copies of cookbooks

by the Barefoot Contessa.

:    :    :

Yes, I do watch the cooking programs on PBS

and on the Food Network,

but she isn’t one of my favorites.

:    :    :

My cupboards groan with copies of cookbooks by Marcia Adams

(Cooking from Quilt Country on PBS a few years back)

and Lidia Bastianich, (Lidia’s Italy)

several copies of ‘America’s Test Kitchen,’

and numerous baking books (mostly bread, I love making artisanal breads).

: : :

Did I need another cookbook?

No.

Did I want another cookbook?

No.

Did I buy another cookbook?

No.

I just liked them for their colorful dust jackets…

Cookbooks are my weakness…I buy them to just sit down and read them sometimes…I might not even cook one recipe from it. Or, I might :)

  • I like them for their covers, too! I am so attracted by vibrant colors such as these. (Just watched an episode of the Barefoot Contessa, but it had a different title.)

This looks like my kitchen. My wife has maybe eight cookbooks by the Barefoot Contessa all lined up. Along with Joy of Cooking and Silver Palate and some other well-worn favorites. And my Big Book of Weber Grilling.

I love the colors, they are so vibrant. I’m not a kitchen princess, but I love to eat. When I see a Cookbook, I never think I want to or I need to… the only thing I think about is, should I buy it for my son -he’s a Chef-

Hi Madge, Those cookbooks like similar to our collection –which have been in my hubby’s family for years… Ours are the Southern Living set…. AND—as many cookbooks as I have had through the years, I’ll admit that I do NOT want anymore…. ha

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  • Madge, colorful indeed! I have a pile of cookbooks in the pantry, unfortuately they are are dusty & not used very often. Too many hobbies already I guess…

I hope all is well for 2013, have a great week.

Oh yea, I have a variety of cookbooks…some purchased, some received as gifts. I love looking at them but there are only certain recipes I’ve found that have stood the test of time. Now I gravitate towards the simplest recipes I can find to save time and money. And I’m an artisan bread freak but have not made one loaf this winter because, once I start, there is no turning back. Great photo!

Cookbooks are a weakness of mine, and so is the Cooking Channel and Food Network! ;)
That market sounds like it would be fun to just wander around in.

  • Nicki says:

I enjoy watching Ina, but a little goes a long way; same is true with Paula Dean, ya’all! These books are quite colorful. I have so darn many cookbooks and pretty much use none of them. I did years back, but now it is the same ole, same ole and it is just me with two picky eaters (no fun there brother!).
