Seahurst Beach - Gray Skies and Gray Puget Sound

Gray, nothing but gray. Gray skies and gray water.

While waiting in my school bus,

for my tech students to come out of Marine Tech at Seahurst Beach,

I always enjoy the view.

:     :    :

On bright sunny days the view is stunning.

White snow-capped Olympic Mountains,

the deep ultramarine blue of Puget Sound,

and varigated emerald greens of the islands and shoreline.

Throw in some gulls and crows,

with a sprinkling of ocean going ships or tugs and barges,

and you have perfection.

:     :     :

Today, well, not so much.

Actually, there wasn’t much of anything.

Just gray.

:     :     :

If you live or have lived in the Northwest

you know what heavy drizzle can do.

Like soak your coat in a couple minutes and,

change a beautiful view into a sheet of gray.

Here looking out ‘at’ Vashon Island, there is gray,

with just a bit darker gray line at the shoreline.

Above the shoreline is gray sky,

beneath is the gray salty waters of Puget Sound.

Gray.

  1. Isn’t it amazing how many different wonderful views there are in WA that are so very common here. We sometimes head down to the bay late at night – if it is very foggy – just to sit and listen to the fog horns and feel the fog.
