Season’s End

Field of Corn - Season's End - Snoqualmie Valley WA

Corn stalks now dry, rustle in the chilly autumn wind along Happy Valley Road.
Cloudy skies threaten cold rain, while the corn sways in the wind, creating a rustling sound as the eight foot tall stalks keep each other standing upright until the combine sweeps them away, to be transformed into a field of stubble. Something about this sound and sight is soothing and peaceful. Still praying for those who are suffering because of Hurricane Sandy, and wishing some peace for them.

An aside ~ I am so saddened by the loss of life, property and livelihood by our fellow Americans on the east coast due to this ‘one-hundred year’ storm, Hurricane Sandy. There are many opportunities to donate to worthy organizations that will be providing help to those suffering at the hands of this natural disaster. If you do not have another opportunity to donate and would like to help make a difference, please click on the image in my sidebar to make a tax deductible donation to the American Red Cross in its response to Hurricane Sandy‘s victims. Or you can make a quick $10 donation to the Red Cross, by texting ‘redcross’ to ‘90999.’ (Your phone donation will be added to your next bill by your mobile carrier.) My husband and I have made a donation online to help.

  1. What a nice late fall photo.

And, your generous mention of the ways to contribute to help those who suffered in the recent east coast storm is terrific. Fortunately, central Connecticut received only minor damage, but the Connecticut shoreline was hit hard.

  2. Madge, greetings from central New Jersey! And I’m so happy to be back up on line. It’s about 11 PM Thursday here and I finally got phones, internet, & TV. Electricity and heat came on last night and it was simply amazing. Much of my town is still without and so many homes near the river have been condemed. Several family members are still without power and are due at my house tomorrow. Saw the boat club today and many boats that were up on blocks are now in the trees. I had a boat pump borrowed from a neighbor and hooked up to a marine battery to pump out my basement. After that failed, I hooked it up to my car battery. This is nothing compared to our shore area and those who lost homes and lives due to fires. People are getting desperate and stealing generators from homes…it is frightening. Your thoughts are deeply appreciated at this time of great tears! Love and hugs to you!!!

  3. Such a beautiful photo! Grasses and grains can be so incredibly beautiful if we take time to look!

On your Weekly Top Shot of the shoes, you had me thinking…I bet it means “good enough to own two pair of shoes.” Maybe it came about during the depression when even having one pair was sometimes a challenge. Just a guess.
