Corn stalks now dry, rustle in the chilly autumn wind along Happy Valley Road. Cloudy skies threaten cold rain, while the corn sways in the wind, creating a rustling sound as the eight foot tall stalks keep each other standing upright until the combine sweeps them away, to be transformed into a field of stubble. Something about this sound and sight is soothing and peaceful. Still praying for those who are suffering because of Hurricane Sandy, and wishing some peace for them.
An aside ~ I am so saddened by the loss of life, property and livelihood by our fellow Americans on the east coast due to this ‘one-hundred year’ storm, Hurricane Sandy. There are many opportunities to donate to worthy organizations that will be providing help to those suffering at the hands of this natural disaster. If you do not have another opportunity to donate and would like to help make a difference, please click on the image in my sidebar to make a tax deductible donation to the American Red Cross in its response to Hurricane Sandy‘s victims. Or you can make a quick $10 donation to the Red Cross, by texting ‘redcross’ to ‘90999.’ (Your phone donation will be added to your next bill by your mobile carrier.) My husband and I have made a donation online to help.

Very kind of you and your husband to donate :-) I’m sure it will be appreciated!
Beautiful shots of the corn stalks, Madge.
Great post and magnificent photography ~ (A Creative Harbor) ^_^
the last of autumn here has been blown away by the blizzard. living in a wonderland of white, struggling through snow drifts to get to the barn…it’s winter come to call!
Beautiful photo. Thanks for sharing info on where to donate for the hurricane victims. So sad.
most of the corn stalks are down around these parts
very pretty.
Even dried they made for a lovely photograph.
Beautiful.
Very nice. I can hear that sound.
Lovely, you’ve caught the harvest and the weather.
Very lovely photo and thank you for the link to the Red Cross. :)
I’m not sure where Happy Valley is….but I love these dry corn stalks and your POV!
Hi Madge,
Thank you so much for visiting my blog. I’ve been browsing yours, and wow! Your photos are outstanding.
What a nice late fall photo.
And, your generous mention of the ways to contribute to help those who suffered in the recent east coast storm is terrific. Fortunately, central Connecticut received only minor damage, but the Connecticut shoreline was hit hard.
Madge, greetings from central New Jersey! And I’m so happy to be back up on line. It’s about 11 PM Thursday here and I finally got phones, internet, & TV. Electricity and heat came on last night and it was simply amazing. Much of my town is still without and so many homes near the river have been condemed. Several family members are still without power and are due at my house tomorrow. Saw the boat club today and many boats that were up on blocks are now in the trees. I had a boat pump borrowed from a neighbor and hooked up to a marine battery to pump out my basement. After that failed, I hooked it up to my car battery. This is nothing compared to our shore area and those who lost homes and lives due to fires. People are getting desperate and stealing generators from homes…it is frightening. Your thoughts are deeply appreciated at this time of great tears! Love and hugs to you!!!
SO glad to hear from your Helene!! I left a note on your blog! :-)
Dry and golden stalks against a gray sky. So pretty.
The dried corn stalks are pretty against the gray sky. The fields have all been harvested here so they are bare.
Perfect end of season image Madge, superbly composed!
Excellent choice of subject and composition for an end of season portrait. Outstanding!
A beautiful shot! And a great post to help those in need from Hurricane Sandy.
Bear With Me….lovely shot looking skyward. It will be a long time before our fellow Americans affected by Sandy will be able to put it behind them.
I always feel a little sad to see the dried corn stalks because it means summer/fall are coming to an end.
Kudos to you for your thoughtfulness towards our less-fortunate Americans. xo
Such a beautiful photo! Grasses and grains can be so incredibly beautiful if we take time to look!
On your Weekly Top Shot of the shoes, you had me thinking…I bet it means “good enough to own two pair of shoes.” Maybe it came about during the depression when even having one pair was sometimes a challenge. Just a guess.
Love this photo :) Found you featured on Wicked Good Wednesday!
