The first day of school, always a special day and well remembered by students and staff. Today was the first day of school in the district that I work for, I’m whipped, it was a long, long day. But all went well, thankfully. Lots of cute little kids and proud parents, lots of photos taken as they board the bus, hopefully I didn’t make it into any of those shots! Here, is Thomas School, built in 1928, a four room school that I spent my first day of first grade and my last day of sixth grade in the four classrooms here. All of our class group shots were on those steps in front of the double front door. The principal’s office (Mrs. Curry) was upstairs and was behind the window to the right above the front doors. So there it is, this is about all the energy I have left to create this short post… I hope if you’re a mom of school age kids that they have a great start to their year…
Sharing with ‘Rural Thursday #32,’ because this was rural once when I was a kid…

what a cute school! i went to a similar elementary school, although we had 6 rooms. :) i’m glad your first day went well!
Hope this year will be a good and safe one for you and your students. I go back next Tuesday.
Schools were so much prettier then, in my opinion! Hope you have a good year on the big yellow bus!
Madge, my sister is a school bus driver and loves those little folks and their proud Mama’s taking photos of their first day of school. Steph has to have booster seats on her bus for the wee ones who are in pre-K…I can’t imagine!
A lovely building. It’s a shame that most of these older buildings have been closed and schools consolidated into one large district.
What a neat old building, I love the blue trim! Glad your first day of school went well even though it was long! :)
This old building must bring back many memories for you Madge. The blue paint is quite vivid and a nice touch to the dark architecture!
Beautiful! My grade school was bigger but it was 3 houses away from where I lived and on the same block. It was a hop skip and a jump away and I got to go home for lunch through grade 6. Happy first day of school to you!
That really is adorable. Ah the old days.
There’s something so charming about a brick school. I’m sure you have fond memories of attending there. :)
I, too, started my school career in a wonderful, vintage building.
If it was still standing, I would certainly photograph it.
This one is great.
And, you SHOULD be in the photos of ‘first day’ memories;
you in those photos will bring smiles to those children when they are someday adults.
That was a convoluted sentence; hope you can figure it out :)
