A lovely tall Celtic cross graces Saint Patrick Catholic Cemetery on Orillia Road in SeaTac, WA. A quiet refuge a couple miles away from very busy SeaTac International Airport, Westfield Southcenter Mall, Boeing and Interstate 5, is this small cemetery of about 5 acres. The land was given for a cemetery by the O’Connell family (I went to school with some of their descendants) to create a Catholic cemetery for the Irish immigrants into the Green River Valley. Some graves are very old. One grave interesting to note is that of Lenore E. Neely, born April 25, 1879, she was the ‘first white child’ born in Auburn, WA. I loved the lichens growing on this intricately carved cross.

Those small graveyards in the midst of progress are intriguing. That is a beautiful cross.
A great design, instantly recognizable. Reminds me of my trip to Ireland.
the way you took this photo, the cross looks massive and heavy. :)
Wow! Love the pattern and textures!
This is so lovely, Madge; well done! I adore Celtic crosses, must be my Scots Irish heritage.
Interesting cross but more interesting cemetery.

Beautiful composition with great perspective.
Celtic crosses are so striking- great angle on this one Madge.
Fine perspective to get clouds and sky too.
great photo ..
Madge, I like the color and texture differences between the cross and sky. Neat capture!
I was in a cemetery today taking pictures. I saw crosses like this but didn’t make the connection with Celtic crosses. And I am Irish!
That is gorgeous. Visiting from Mandarin Orange Monday.
