Space Needle - Fiftieth Anniversary - Close Up

Seattle’s Space Needle sports a new coat, of paint that is. Fifty years ago, Seattle’s 1962 World’s Fair opened in the month of April. The Space Needle was then one of the highlights of the Fair and has since become the iconic symbol of the city. Normally, the roof of the Needle is painted a similar neutral creme color as the legs. But as part of the anniversary celebration, it was painted the original color from 1962 called ‘Galaxy Gold.’ At first the color change was quite jarring, but I’ve come to enjoy the bright pop of color on Seattle’s grey days. Here I caught a peek-a-boo shot of the top of the Needle from Pier 55 on the waterfront.

Did you watch the opening ceremonies of the London Olympics last night? I did. I really enjoyed all the creativity, the colors, the music and the bits of humor. Two that stand out in my mind were the spoof of Queen Elizabeth and ‘James Bond,’ parachuting into the stadium and ‘Mr. Bean’ playing with the London Symphony, that really cracked me up. Love Mr. Bean!

Thankfully, after the surgery on Thursday, my mouth is feeling better, still swollen but not nearly as painful today. So it’s back to painting the house… brush and roll, brush and roll…
