Umbrellas at the Market - Copacabana Cafe

Bright flowers and colorful umbrellas show off. Summer at the Pike Place Market is a delight for the senses. The rooftops and balconies are lined with flowers, scents of delicious food waft in the early evening air. Right now the Petunias and Nasturtiums are in the height of their glory, lush and trailing over the edges of the buildings. These colorful umbrellas grace the upstairs outside dining deck of the Copacabana Cafe.

The contract between the waning daylight, lighting of the covered walkway along Pike Place (with the dining deck above), the flowers and the umbrellas really caught my fancy. I only wish I chosen a higher f/stop to have created greater depth of field so the flowers were more in focus, but I didn’t have my tripod out and was shooting on available light at f/1.8 and ISO 100. Not wanting to go back to the car for my tripod or bump the ISO I handheld the shot and got what I did… ah well next time.

    Love that perspective, Madge!
On a pretty summer day in the market, having lunch on the deck at the Copa is my favorite place to be – enjoying a cool beverage, a dish of paella and that grand view across Elliott Bay.
