Flashing, banging and rumbling… Thunder storms are a rarity in the Seattle area, sometimes only one or two storms per year. The last week or so, we’ve had an electrical storm almost every day; as a matter of fact, it is pouring down rain and flashing and banging outside now and has been since early this morning.
Last week at about 2am a storm rolled through. Not having to get up and go to work, I got up to storm chase, ending up on Alki Beach. Unfortunately, the lightning was mostly sheet and not bolt strikes. I only got shots of the sky lighting up, but here off her deck in SeaTac, my daughter Amanda caught this striking (no pun intended, he.he.he) shot on the same night.
Seattle’s weather has been normal for us this summer (we’ve only reached 80 degrees on couple days so far), but I know that across the country weather has been drastic and dangerous. What’s happening in your neck of the woods?
My daughter is a talented photographer, if you’d like to see some of her work you can visit her website at ‘ScreamColors.’

great shot by your daughter! that’s gorgeous!
Great catch! It’s raining here also, but I haven’t seen a good bolt of lightning in quite some time.
We are very hot, dry and windy in Western South Dakota.
That’s a really good shot. these are so hard to capture.
Very impressive! I tried my best to capture some lightning yesterday and it was a complete failure.
Wanted to thank you for commenting and for following. I’m humbled.
Scary!
Good for her. Pushing the shutter button at exactly the right moment is very tough. But, she got this baby!
I fear lightening. I view it from afar and am quite happy.
Great shot…I kike how the trees frame the lightning.
What a great shot!! I’d love to capture lightning… we have many electrical storms in our area.
I love this shot! Great timing.
