Fourth of July Fireworks Over Elliott Bay

Independence Day, the 4th of July, flags, parades, picnics, fireworks, family.

:  :  :

Here on July 4, 2008 over Elliott Bay,

were some of the last large fireworks displayed i

n an annual celebration called ‘The 4th of Jul-Ivars.’

Sponsored by Ivar Haglund (owner of Ivar’s Acres of Clams Restaurant)

from 1964 to 2008, the show was enjoyed by hundred of thousands of Seattleietes.

There are still large fireworks in Seattle on the 4th

but now they are over Lake Union, north of downtown.

A much smaller area geographically and much more difficult to find a spot to view them,

terrible traffic, virtually non-existent parking and just one public park from which to view them.

Sorry to say that my husband and I haven’t watched a display in person since 2008 when I shot today’s photo.

We’re going for a drive shortly,

have a bite to eat and let Lucy run.

Then we’ll come home and man a charged hose in case an errant bottle rocket or hot ember lands on the house.

We live in a small part of unincorporated King County where you can still legally shoot off fireworks

and our neighborhood often looks and sounds like a battlefield filled with smoke.

What are you doing today?

Love that shot, Madge. Just catching the last bit of the sunset adds just the right touch. I will be photographing fireworks Saturday evening at the Lebanon town green. Hopefully I can capture some as good as yours.

I suspected you would have a beautiful shot today and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. This is gorgeous!

Fireworks seem to be legal around here and we’ve been treated to some spectacular shows staged by neighbors a few miles away. It’s a treat we enjoy. Thankfully, our dog isn’t bothered by any of it.

I hope you enjoy your celebrations!
