2012 is the fiftieth anniversary of the Seattle 1962 World’s Fair, called ‘Century 21.’ April 21, 1962, then President John F. Kennedy opened the Fair via a telephone call that was broadcast into the stadium on the grounds to 12,000 people seated there for the opening ceremonies. The monorail ran (and still runs) between the Seattle Center (the location of the 1962 World Fair) and Westlake Center in downtown Seattle, along a 1 mile double elevated track. Two trains service the system and have carried about 2 million visitors a year.
In 1999, Paul Allen (co-founder of Microsoft) built the EMP (Experience Music Project) at the Seattle Center, show casing and the history and exploration of popular music. AC/DC and Nirvana are being featured at the EMP now (neither is my cup of tea in regard to music, but for some it is). When the EMP was built, it was built around the monorail line where it comes out of the Seattle Center grounds, and here in this shot you can see just that view of it exiting the EMP.
Thanks for joining me today, for the view that is right here! ~ Madge

Dynamic photo, Madge! Your perspective adds even more “pop!”
Madge – that is an amazingly beautiful shot! I had the pleasure of being in your city last weekend and visited Seattle Center’s Chihuly Gardens. While not a huge fan of his, I must admit they have done a fabulous job on the gardens. I was at the Seattle Worlds Fair, and am impressed with what has been left behind and the fact that the area is once again starting to come up.
Dynamic photo, Madge! Your perspective gives it even more “pop!”
that’s a really cool structure. architecture w/ a flourish.
Just great!
cool shot! :)
Excellent composition, i also find the accompanying history very interesting. I wonder, is this the same structure that is featured in one of the desktop backgrounds that Microsoft provides with Windows 7?
What a great shot. Looks like a modern sculpture.
