The Boys of Summer

Safeco Field - The Boys of Summer - Seattle Mariners

‘Baseball, Apple Pie, Hot Dogs and Chevrolet.’

That’s how foundational the game of baseball is in America. The boys of summer, our Seattle Mariner’s have been playing ball now for a couple months and fans are flocking to Safeco Field for the games. But I haven’t yet, and usually don’t. The cost of parking, tickets, a pop and hot dog will set you back a fast $100 for a couple, and my husband and I choose to spend it elsewhere. The team is almost in the basement in the American League West.. wah.wah.wah, not much excitement there anyway except for diehards.

Thanks for joining me today, for the view that is right here! ~ Madge

  1. With the cost of experiencing the American pastime of baseball skyrocketing, it is becoming more and more of a die-hard fan or corporate sponsored seats type of event. My husband grew up baseball – went to the games, collected the cards (which we still have) and even named our son after Nolan Ryan. Earlier in our marriage he even indulged himself with ‘fantasy baseball’ and won several banners from ESPN. Now, after multiple strikes and increasing costs associated with kids – this sport is a luxury we rarely partake. We’re a lot like you – we’d prefer to spend our money elsewhere.

  2. Great shot! I too have to agree, as much as I love baseball it is too expensive. Such a shame because it is an experience every American child should have. Thank goodness the tickets to minor league games is still affordable for the most part.
