Marlon Brando - The Wild One - Roslyn WA - Mural

Bright, bold and hard to miss, this huge mural on the theater in Roslyn WA of Marlon Brando is striking. Taken last fall on a day trip to Roslyn, I was impressed with this colorful and well done mural by Ellensburg, WA artist Don O’Connor. O’Connor also painted Oasis mural on the side of the Roslyn Cafe shown in the opening sequence of the hit TV show ‘Northern Exposure,’ shared with you in a post last October.

The movie ‘The Wild One,’ was produced by Stanley Kramer Productions and directed by Laslo Benedek. Starring Marlon Brando as Johnny Strabler, the leader of a motorcycle gang who cause trouble in a small town and the ensuing drama. Hailed as one of the greatest Hollywood actors of all time, Brando was 29 years old when the film was made (having starred in 35 movies in his career) and he passed away in 2004 at the age of 80. The movie I recall best that he starred in was ‘The Godfather,’ from 1972.  Brando’s activism for me personally was off-putting at times and I didn’t always like or enjoy his work even though those who ‘know’ better gave him critical acclaim.

Thank you for hanging in there with me these past couple weeks through my ups and downs of visiting and commenting on your blogs.  I do enjoy visiting each of you and seeing your photography and points of view.  I worked most of this past week, albeit a very rough week it was.  Another visit to the asthma doctor, more and different treatment and medications were given and although I am still ill, I am hoping to be better soon.

Thanks for joining me today, for the view that is right here! ~ Madge

  1. Wow, this is beautiful and COOL (as my teenager would say ;-)) ! I love these buildings with artwork myself, but this is quite impressive! :-) Oh, hope you’ll get well soon.

I’m linking up to you soon. :-)

  2. Feel better soon! I feel your ‘pain’…I’ve had a head cold for over a week. It’s finally on its way out but still so congested.
Love this photo and thank you so much for the link to Northern Exposure. That was such a great show! Again, get well…better days are coming!

  3. I think I have to put Roslyn on my “places to go” list! Fabulous image capture, Madge . I am sorry to hear that your asthma is bad…..I spent my entire childhood and adolescence with asthma (no meds or inhalers then!), but seemed to outgrow it in my late 30’s or early 40’s. I have to stay away from cats, but that’s not a problem. I hope your doctor figures something out for you soon.

  4. Wonderful painting.
Thanks for reminding me of Northern Exposure.
I watched the show while it was running…
and have the whole series on DVD (which I’ve watched).
This was a great show with lots of philosophy mixed in the fun.
