Photography magazines are generally a large portion of the genres offered for sale at your local news stand. Popular Photography, Digital Camera, PhotoPro, Digital Photography, DSLR Photography, Aperture, American Photo, Outdoor Photographer, Photo Techniques, Picture, Shutter Bug, Professional Photographer and many more. At one time or another I think I’ve bought an issue of most of the photographer/photography magazines on the shelf. They generally are expensive and contrary to the glossy photos and catching headlines I’ve rarely been pleased with the articles when I got home and had time to sit down and read them. Recently while shooting at the Pike Place Market, I splurged and bought a $13 magazine from the UK, and once again I was sorely disappointed in the amount and quality of information it contained as opposed to what the slick cover promised. I’ve decided I’ll keep my money in my pocket from now on. What about you, do you buy them? If so, are you satisfied with the information you glean from them for the money you spent.

I can’t say I’ve ever bought one. But I do like the composition of your photo. :)
I usually buy one or two when I am about to buy a new camera. I like to see the run downs on the best cameras. Other than that I buy one every few years if I see an article i really want to read…but, as you say, generally they are disappointing. In this age of the internet, it is easier and cheaper to just look there for photographic ideas. I like 500px.com because you can see some really good work for free. it gives you something to shoot for…forgive the pun!
Oh, what I’d give just to have a local newsstand! The offerings at my local Wal-Mart contain no photography mags! Zero, zilch! I’m able to find one occasionally at the library. But of course that’s to read on the premises, not to take home!
Your shot is perfect. Never bought a photography mag, but I do subscribe to a few. My favs are Country, Reminisce, Birds and Blooms. Lots of pictures and few ads.
I agree Madge, overpriced to start with, and the content almost always disappoints. I get gifted with the odd one now and again, but I rarely buy them anymore. Though if I have a bit of time to kill I might peruse one or two at the magazine rack at the local mall bookstore!
I steer clear of photo mags w/ with a zillion ads. I tend to look but don’t buy more of the photo art ones. Lots of crap; little use.
I don’t think I have ever purchased a photog mag … Especially when soo much info is available for free online. Nice shot.
I now buy most of my magazines via my ipad. Way cheaper ($3 – $6) :)

Personally, I have gotten far more inspiration, awesome ideas, and useful tips from following other photographers on G+ for the last couple months than I have gotten out of all the mags for the last 20 years.
