Yawn... Is That All There Is?

Rural farmsteads without dogs are few and far between.

Often driving down dirt roads and passing by a farm or just as often crossing between the house and out buildings brings out the dogs. Here on Kamerrer Road in Whitman County, I slowed down to minimize the dust rolling into the farmyard I was passing through and noticed some fairly new lambs in the corral. Stopping to get out to take a shot or two, the farm dog’s enthusiasm for a visitor waned, he yawned and returned to porch sitting as if to say ‘Is that all there is?’

Some dogs are wary coming out only part way to the road or wherever I’m standing shooting. Some are real guard dogs that keep me in my vehicle away from something I’d like to stand outside to shoot. But some would simply invite you in to eat and stay a while, just friendly dogs who want some love. Here’s another fellow, this one from up east of Steptoe Butte, on Hubner and Crabtree Roads. He came up wanting pets (which he got from me of course!) and then I had a heck of a time convincing him he wasn’t going for a ride with me! :-)

Thanks for joining me today, for the view that is right here! ~ Madge

  1. Oh yes ~ a farm must have a dog or two as well. Dogs and cats…and some cows, a horse, lambs, goats, chickens, rooster, baby piglets and perhaps a goose or two. Hmmmm…now that is why we need a nice big barn! :)
