Macrina Bakery – Weekly Top Shot #24

Macrina Bakery - Queen Anne Storefront

Breads and Muffins and Cupcakes, Oh My! Most large cities have artisan bakeries these days; Seattle has quite a few. In my opinion the city’s best is Macrina Bakery. Founded, owned and operated by renowned chef, Leslie Mackie, she pours her heart and soul into the breads, sweets and savories you purchase there.  You will not be disappointed to visit any of the three storefronts in Seattle, located on Queen Anne Hill, in the Belltown neighborhood and in SODO.  Each location also has a cafe where you can sit, relax with friends while you enjoy a sweet or savory treat and sip a latte too.

Each month the bakery gives away a recipe that is made and served in their cafes.  This month’s free recipe is for ‘Sweet Potato Gnocchi.’  Visit Macrina Bakery to get a copy of the recipe and sign up for the newsletter to receive the recipes each month.   I have a signed copy of her cookbook ‘Macrina Bakery & Cafe Cookbook: Favorite Breads, Pastries, Sweets and Savories.’  It is full of wonderfully delicious recipies! Do you bake?  I do, and have for years.  If there were only one kind of food, if it were bread, I’d be happy.  I love bread, I love baking breads, all kinds but especially rustic, artisan breads with starters which enhance the taste of the finished loaf.

Here we are looking in the front window of the Queen Anne storefront, you see lovely artisan breads waiting for customers purchase and pleasure.  The cafe is small, but inviting and I enjoyed my visit and latte the day I took this shot.

Recently, I visited the SODO storefront after a morning photo shoot in town and purchased a treat for myself, a Saint Patrick’s Day cupcake with Bailey’s Irish Creme frosting, a rich, thick custard filling and deep, delicious dark chocolate cake.  It was divine!

After purchase, they carefully place your treats in a pink to-go box with a label bearing the Macrina Bakery logo on the lid.

Thanks for joining me today, for the view that is right here! ~ Madge

  1. I’m so happy I stumbled upon your blog! I live in the Seattle area and I’ve been taking photography classes for the past few years. I am desperate for some inspiration on how to take pictures in the gloom and doom of our rainy days. I can’t wait to browse around your blog and look at your pictures! I’d love it if you’d stop by and take a look at my blogs. http://www.homeiswheremystorybegins.com

Hey, Madge–I googled “preserving pussywillows” and got to your page about that subject…I have a question about them (comments were closed on that page): do you know how can I keep the catkins from falling off the branches? Thanks!
