Breads and Muffins and Cupcakes, Oh My! Most large cities have artisan bakeries these days; Seattle has quite a few. In my opinion the city’s best is Macrina Bakery. Founded, owned and operated by renowned chef, Leslie Mackie, she pours her heart and soul into the breads, sweets and savories you purchase there. You will not be disappointed to visit any of the three storefronts in Seattle, located on Queen Anne Hill, in the Belltown neighborhood and in SODO. Each location also has a cafe where you can sit, relax with friends while you enjoy a sweet or savory treat and sip a latte too.
Each month the bakery gives away a recipe that is made and served in their cafes. This month’s free recipe is for ‘Sweet Potato Gnocchi.’ Visit Macrina Bakery to get a copy of the recipe and sign up for the newsletter to receive the recipes each month. I have a signed copy of her cookbook ‘Macrina Bakery & Cafe Cookbook: Favorite Breads, Pastries, Sweets and Savories.’ It is full of wonderfully delicious recipies! Do you bake? I do, and have for years. If there were only one kind of food, if it were bread, I’d be happy. I love bread, I love baking breads, all kinds but especially rustic, artisan breads with starters which enhance the taste of the finished loaf.
Here we are looking in the front window of the Queen Anne storefront, you see lovely artisan breads waiting for customers purchase and pleasure. The cafe is small, but inviting and I enjoyed my visit and latte the day I took this shot.
Recently, I visited the SODO storefront after a morning photo shoot in town and purchased a treat for myself, a Saint Patrick’s Day cupcake with Bailey’s Irish Creme frosting, a rich, thick custard filling and deep, delicious dark chocolate cake. It was divine!
After purchase, they carefully place your treats in a pink to-go box with a label bearing the Macrina Bakery logo on the lid.
Thanks for joining me today, for the view that is right here! ~ Madge

i’m kind of amused by her ‘sourpuss’ face. :)
Lol…
Nummy! While we have as many artisanal bakeries as you, can’t recall seeing anything as divine as a St. Patricks Day cupcake!
Yummy! I could go for a cupcake right about now! :)
Aaah! The smell of fresh baked bread!
I like good bread which is very hard to find in my town. We have one good bakery within 20 miles that sells break made by the Amish which is excellent, but most local bakery break leaves something to be desired. Fine post. I had to use a file from my computer so I couldn’t link back to http://www.theviewfromrighthere.com/blog/?p=6848.
ver y cool reflection shot. And it looks delicious. :)
Thanks, Madge…for another photo sharing opportunity! I LOVE breads…my mother used to bake and I did some when I lived on a tiny island in Micronesia for four years in the late 60’s.
Looks like the sort of place I like to frequent! Great sign.
Thank you for hosting, Madge!
You’re welcome… and you wouldn’t be disappointed if you went into this bakery! :-)
first time visiting here….thank you….love the photos on your site and can smell the fresh bread baking on this one!
I’m afraid I may be gaining weight just imagining the heavenly smells that must issue forth from this place!
I just can’t get over the fascination of cupcakes. What’s the big deal??????
Just a delicious hand held cake??!
Bring on the butter…NOW!
One pat or two? :-)
A great shot there Madge, I made it eventually :) I hope you’re having a lovely weekend.
Good, so glad you did… ;-)
Wonderful subject and, of course, your photo too!
I love to bake and make all of our bread. Until recently, I was baking bread and selling it at the local Farmer’s Market so this post is near and dear to my heart! :)
My kids were raised on homemade bread… these days its more of a treat for us all because I work full time…
I’m so happy I stumbled upon your blog! I live in the Seattle area and I’ve been taking photography classes for the past few years. I am desperate for some inspiration on how to take pictures in the gloom and doom of our rainy days. I can’t wait to browse around your blog and look at your pictures! I’d love it if you’d stop by and take a look at my blogs. http://www.homeiswheremystorybegins.com

Hey, Madge–I googled “preserving pussywillows” and got to your page about that subject…I have a question about them (comments were closed on that page): do you know how can I keep the catkins from falling off the branches? Thanks!
I’ll email you…
Looks like a tasty kind of place.
Lovely shot, Madge! Great content and I love the reflection!
beautiful and I think I smell fresh baked bread. I wonder if the lady in the pic doesn’t like bread.
I am over from Savvy Southern Style…my first time here and I am excited to find you.
I will be linking with you often, on Saturdays.
Is it ok to link older posts? I have some photos I am proud of that I would like to share at your parties. :)
