Peek-A-Boo Barn

Scatter Creek Dairy - Viewed Through the Trees

An abandoned dairy barn sits slowly decaying and plays peek-a-boo through the bare trunks and branches of a Broad Leaf Maple. The barn and surrounding former pastures are now part of a 492 acre wildlife refuge in the Scatter Creek area near Rochester, WA. The pastures of this once proud dairy are now lush prairie where the public can walk and venture further into the refuge to enjoy wetlands and Oregon White Oak forest where wildlife such as song birds, herons, pheasant, beaver, deer, coyote, rabbit, raccoon, bobcat and fox can be seen. I posted a photo of the entire barn several weeks ago, you can view it in this post, ‘Dilapidated Dairy in Scatter Creek.’

Thanks for joining me today for the view that is right here! ~ Madge

  1. I like your perspective on this one, Madge. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a barn with a shake shingle roof. Is it common in your area? Now that I think of it, very few houses in Texas have shake roofs. Maybe some fancy ones in the city but not in rural areas.

  2. Love all that mossy beauteousness. (My new made up word inspired by this post) Isn’t it wonderful that they preserved this farm for the wildlife and the public. Love stories like that! Great photo. Makes me feel like I am there peeking around the tree. xx
