Coming Home at Day's End

A brilliant and glowing setting sun drops behind a boat coming across Elliott Bay at day’s end. In the wide open waters of Puget Sound, seeing boats, ships, tugs and barges is a common and daily sight. But to see a boat made miniature by comparing the Olympic Mountains to the west and the huge fire ball of the sun hanging momentarily at sunset over the horizon is a bit out of the ordinary and in this case quite spectacular!

The Associated Press has released a story that the largest solar flare in five years erupted yesterday and will reach earth about midnight tonight and could have major impacts on the power grid, gps and could prohibit air plane flights over the north and south poles.  But on the up side, there could be significant and beautiful auroras visible, even in Seattle we may see it on the horizon to the north according to the University of Alaska, Geophysical Institute.

  1. You captured the pinkness that is so fleeting……… and that sun fading behind the mountains situates the photo on the west coast……….. stunning.
