Giving occupants the ability to escape during a fire, these iron structures are fast disappearing. In historic neighborhoods like Pioneer Square in Seattle though you can look up any alley and still see their strong presence. Here along Post Alley in Pioneer Square on a red brick building is a well maintained black escape snaking up the backside, creating a pleasing symmetry.

How cool is that? Great angle! They may be disappearing, but they still get used a lot in movies and TV shows.
love the repeating patterns of both iron and brick. really nice, madge!
Wowee- wow-wow, Madge! This is an incredible shot. I love, love, love it. (Did I mention I LOVE it?)
Now that you mention it, it is almost rare to find one. And I must say, I have never seen one quite as elaborately designed as this one.
Very cool! I like a lot the angle. Too bad that they are on the way of disappearing, but… this is the reality.
That’s some pretty fancy ironwork for a fire escape. I hope it’s never taken down.
You have a true Top Shot. Love it.
Great composition.
Regards and best wishes
That is a particularly ornate, and very beautiful example of a wrought iron fire escape, Madge. Our escapes here are much more prosaic.
Great composition and I love all the lines and angles.
Very ornate. I’m glad they haven’t torn them down. Great shot, Madge.
what a unique and creative shot!! Happy to be following you now!
What beautiful ironwork…and the contrast with the red brick is fabulous.
I’ve never seen such a beautiful fire escape! The photo…angle, colors, perspective…is wonderful!
That is just amazing.
Great contrast between the fire escape and brick wall.
Top shot, very graphic!
Are really these fire stair escapes disappearing? They look so American for someone abroad the USA because they appear in many TV shows and movies…
I like your picture and that red brick building with the black stairs. Nice combination!
Regards from Barcelona.
Love the angle and there’s nothing quite like the black against a brick background.
I love the composition in this photo! Very nice!
Great photo Madge! I’d print this one if it was mine. Love that wrought iron.
Wow, I just love this! Great composition.
That is one gorgeous fire escape on one fabulous photo!
Love the graphic quality of this photo. The lines, the swirls and the black iron against the red brick.
love the scrolls!
