Chilled, ice encrusted… Normally, I don’t post these types of images, but today in the still freezing temps with snow/ice still clinging to everything, I wanted to share a shot from my front yard yesterday. Before this storm, our temperatures were so mild the last couple weeks, that the flower buds on one of my Rhododendrons were beginning to bloom. Here is a pink bud encased in natural ‘crystal.’
Rain will be coming into western Washington later today, but it will take a couple days to wash all of this away. Several hundred thousand people are without power and have been told it may take three or four days to restore their service. Thankfully, we have power and so far have lost about half a dozen very large limbs from the Douglas Fir trees in our front yard, one large limb (about 9″ in diameter) knocked the gutter off the front corner of the house, thankful it didn’t come through the roof! One large limb fell on my favorite dwarf apple tree, hope it didn’t break. My husband is out cutting those up and moving the debris.
I’m blogging and knitting some hand-warmers with #2 needles, they may be finished before next winter!
Beautiful !!
It sounds crazy in your area. Snow’s bad enough, but topped with ice is too much. Stay home and stay warm!!
The temps are beginning to warm already… :-)
Rain is coming here too, but we sure missed the brunt of it, that you folks got! Current temp is 0°C, but it’s supposed to get to 5° later today. Much better without that minus sign in front of the number like we’ve seen the last few days!
Thankful you all missed the snow
poor confused plants (and animals!)
aw poor little flower got a rude awakening! beautiful shot!
I saw yalls freezing weather on the news….Hope it gets better soon. The frozen flower is neat to see
I hope it survives, Madge.!
Finally – rain – we are the last to get it – and have about 10 inches of snow to melt up here in Bellingham – but the rain is here and I’m relieved. I’m crocheting a shawl, hopefully done this winter.
I’ve been through some ice storms in Missouri that left everything coated in ice like your picture. It’s an amazing transformation.
Looks chilly but so darn beautiful.
thank you for your comment on my blog. i’m so sorry about your dogs—and so glad you have a new bundle of joy. riley will be OK. he wanted to play tonight when i came home. it’s not yet been a week yet; he just needs more time. thanks so much.
absolutely gorgeous! Love your blog header too!
I am sorry you are having such bad weather/or rather have had. It is always such a loss to lose shrubs, trees, when they have been with us for years, they are family. I hope the damage is minimum. I have to say your photo is quite abstract and immediately it brought to mind, dragonfly eyes, magnified 1,000 times…really quite beautiful. smiles: sharon
