Watch that speedometer! I’ve been waiting patiently for the right opportunity to share this image with you taken recently outside the small rural Kittitas County town of Roslyn. Today seemed the perfect fit, some local municipal and county government offices are closed, the University of Washington and other universities are closed. There are 132 public school districts in western Washington, this morning 131 of them are closed. Ocean Beach School District #101 is the lone district in western Washington that is open and ran two hours late. That just about sums it up nicely, don’t you think??
Snow is widespread over western Washington this morning, it will be below freezing all day. I went out for a drive around the area this morning for about and hour and a half, took a few shots and enjoyed the transformation that snow makes in landscape. We have about 7 inches and it is still coming down, wind blowing and around 29° F. My sister lives south of Olympia (our state capitol) and has about 26 inches on the ground! The snow that falls today will not be going anywhere fast, tomorrow will still be below or at freezing, but beginning to transition to rain late, then plain ol’ northwest rain on Friday.
The roads and freeways are a nightmare… did you forget to pickup that gallon of milk and loaf of bread? No problem, get that snowmobile out of the garage and go get it! Just watch your speed… :-)
i enjoy your sense of humor : )
it can get really slippery after the rain, ineed.
take care
Thanks Demie… I just kept hoping we’d get some REAL snowfall so I could share this sign, which actually is from eastern WA near the town of Roslyn in Kittitas County… ;-)
I can honestly say I’ve never seen a snowmobile speed limit sign! And appropriate for this weather.
I never had before either… it made me smile!
I haven’t seen much traffic today in Sequim, snowmobile or otherwise. I think so far people are heeding warnings to stay home. Yesterday there were at least 77 reports of cars in ditches around this area — who knows how many didn’t call in their misery. A nice day to stay home!
Yes, lots of slips, slids and crashes here too. As to snowmobiles, several zoomed by our house a while ago… lol!
That is so funny. I can’t wait to see your shots of this storm.
Well, Kim… I don’t have anything funny… but I do have a couple more shots to post…
i’ve never actually seen a snowmobile except on tv! be careful out there and stay warm!
Several have zoomed by our house today…
Wow – you and Lowell both posted signs that just defy logic. – Hope you are enjoying the snow, despite the inane drivers on the road.
Yes, I am enjoying the snow… my school district has already closed for tomorrow, it was reported with others on the evening news.
It sounds like you are getting a big dump of snow down your way! We don’t have too much snow. Just the cold. I’m ready for spring! Maybe you need to buy a snowmobile. Ha!
xo Catherine
Yes. .. lots of snow, hmmm a snowmobile let me think a moment, uh no…
I heard all about Seattle on Public Radio this morning. Incredible weather you are having. I hope are doing alright.
Yes thanks, we’re fine… we always have a pantry full of staples and a gas fireplace for heat if the power went out…
Too funny. Feel free to send the snow our way.
Lots of people are complaining, but I’m enjoying it… even if I had to go to work and chain up a bus, I’d still enjoy the snow.
Ya, I heard you were getting hit with a good ‘blow’.
Just a tad, Birdman, just a tad… ;-)
My mom sent me pictures this morning of the snow she got in Hoquiam. I just don’t remember it snowing that much when I was a kid living in Seattle and Port Angeles.
I remember getting snows like this in the 1950s and 60s…
Looks as cold as it is warm here.
It’s a little chilly… supposed to rain beginning tomorrow night…
Hi Madge, I saw your comment about Seattle on Catherine’s blog Corner of Cat’s Mind. I currently live in Las Vegas and will be moving to Seattle in the spring. I have really enjoyed my visit here seeing your photos of the PNW. I will also find you on FB. You will see photos on my blog of the area as well as I have loved it there for years and it’s a dream come true to be moving there. Just got back from a visit there…hope you survived the big snow!
