‘Go To Your Room…!’ yelled mom, when cutting some space was needed if I ‘disagreed’ with her. My childhood bedroom was spacious but furnished sparsely and plainly. Here a store on the eastside of Lake Washington in the upscale community of Bellevue caters to parents who want to purchase really cool furniture for their kids’ bedrooms. I peered into the store windows and would say that if I lived in a home where this fun, fanciful furniture and decor were in my room as a kid, the dread ‘Go to your room!’ wouldn’t be too bad. Not too bad at all!
Snow is falling in some places, some not. The school district to our south (Federal Way is closed for the day) looks like a winter wonderland on the morning news, and my backyard has nada. My district is running two hours late on regular bus route schedules. Seattle Public Schools (the largest district in the region) is running two hours late as well as most of our neighboring districts. If the snow slams us during the day today, it will be an interesting ‘take home’ this afternoon. The weatherman is still calling for more snow today and a LOT of snow for tomorrow up to 17 inches in some areas.
i know, getting sent to your room really isn’t a punishment anymore lol….we’re in the 60’s today and maybe a little rain…i really don’t think we’ll ever see snow at this point ugh!
I forgot to mention that we no electronic gadgets to entertain ourselves with in the 1950s/60s when I grew up so ‘Go To Your Room,’ meant certain boredom not an entertainment break… lol!
LOL I can not count how many times I’ve heard this line in my youth.
It was really a punishment for my sister and I as we LOVED to go outside. We had horses, etc. as we lived on a small farm and there were lots of fun to be had outside…so going to my room was boredom and gave lots of time to think about whatever I’d done or not done! ;-)
i am very thankful I have no need to visit that store… yippee on all kids grown. but i would like to see the furniture, just not need it. i had a bed and a dresser in my tiny room and spent many happy hours in it by choice, piled up on the bed with a book and my dolls and stuff animals.
We played in our rooms some, but mostly we spent out time outside riding horses and playing with the neighbor kids…
Nicely seen Madge! Woke up to a light dusting of snow here this morning, but they tell us more is coming tomorrow. Damn!
There store name and neon sign made me smile… we had slush yesterday, and that’s all…I’m up at 0415 and the news is showing that my school district is already closed…
very clever!
I thought so too!
We headed outside when I was a kid; I don’t remember having to go to my room. But it was stocked with dolls and books. I never could have imagined all the passive entertainment there is today. . .And outside, today, is snow here. Probably a few inches, and enough wind to take the chill way down. Time for hot tea and cookies.
Mmmm… what kind of cookies?? I’ll be over! :-)
Oh, things are sooooo different today…different and not necessarily better. Drive carefully and, when you get home, go to you room. I just had to say that :)
I did go to my roon, Helene… to change my clothes! ;-)
I love it! I wish they had two hour work delays.
Two hours late does make a bit of an unusual day… ;-)
Really nothing for us either — stay safe! :)
Thanks Nancy… we’re closed for the day…
