‘Wonder Bread Helps Build Strong Bodies 8 Ways…’

Wonder Bread, that soft, white sandwich bread that could be found in many kids’ lunch boxes for years, has been replaced by healthier choices for most these days. When I was a kid I loved Wonder Bread, the package always stayed the same too, white with those classic red letters and red, blue and yellow ‘bubbles.’ Six years ago the Seattle facility that produced Wonder Bread was razed and replaced with an apartment building, but thankfully the owner’s had a sense of nostalgia and installed the old neon sign on top of the new building. Perhaps they liked Wonder Bread too, after all it is still soft, delicious and nutritious after 90 years!  I could use some wonder working power .. getting ready for work was a bit slow this morning.  Please pass the bread!

  1. There are just some sandwiches that don’t taste the same unless they’re on white bread: chicken salad, BLT (on toast), grilled cheese, and a fried egg sand.

I think it’s really cool that an apartment building has that wonderful sign. What a great way to describe where you live to people who are asking for directions.

  2. Very cool sign. Everyone has their own preference when it comes to bread, but one thing I know….it all smells heavenly when it’s being baked. I think it’s a shame we can’t survive on bread and butter:-)

As a kid I was often given a dollar and sent to the store for a loaf of bread and a carton of milk. (no plastic bottles then and enough change to buy some candy!) The milk was always heavy to lug home but the smell of that bread as I walked up the hill with my nose in the paper grocery bag was heavenly! Later, as a young man, I went to Seattle Community College for a short time. Being just up the street from this bakery / bread factory, that same smell would waft into the classroom and drive me nuts! It usually meant a quick stop at their outlet store on my way home!
