Red Barn in Triplicate

In rural Latah County, just a few miles north of Potlatch, ID on US Highway 95,
you come to a crossroad, where Freeze Road runs east and west. In what once was the pioneer community of Freeze, all that remains of those days is a small one room school house sitting in the yard of a farmstead and just beyond on a small ridge is Freeze Church and cemetery.

Returning to the main highway on the left sitting in the midst of fallow canola fields are these three red barns, creating drama against the dark clouds of a passing spring storm.

  1. What a pretty shot! I love the white trim and the patchwork roof on the little barn. I like the tiny building in front of the middle barn. A pump house? I would love to live there. But maybe the town’s name would discourage me….Freeze? Must be cold in the winter!

    1. I’ve often thought that it might have been weather related but found out at when I attended Easter service at Freeze Church that a pioneer by the name of John Freeze was a founder of the town…

  2. WoW! Madge, you’ve outdone yourself w/ this shot! It’s absolutely & undeniably GORGEOUS & oh so very dramatic! I love it… Love the storm in the background, too!

Thank you very very much for linking up this beauty =)

  3. Hello Madge…what a wonderful photo! I love how the red just pops and yet it’s a faded red. The clouds are wonderful too! Thanks for stopping by the other day. I hope your day is a good one.
