Man at work… Early on a frosty, winter week day about thirty minutes after dawn, the Union Pacific service yard in northeast Tacoma was already working. This engineer was out throwing switches moving his Union Pacific Railroad engine along the tracks toward the Port of Tacoma; where most likely he will be gathering loaded cars to bring back to the yard and switching in empties for the terminals to use.

Speaking of work, it’s time I get crackin’ and get to work to do a little ‘switching’ of my own – ‘switching’ (meaning transporting via a 40′ transit style school bus) students from their bus stops to school!

    1. I’m not sure, but I do love them… I enjoy catching people working… its what we all spend a good deal of our time at so it’s nice to acknowledge them, as you say we often forget the people behind the scenes!

  1. Ahhhhhh, the romance of the train! The train station is right across from the office and the elevated track runs through the property. Every once in a while I stroll to the other side of the building and watch the trains on their way to NYC or Trenton. If my timing is right, I’ll catch an Acela flying through. One day, I will catch a photo of that speeding train. Love the post!
