We'll Leave a Light on For You at the Daffodil Motel

Nostalgia in neon, the Daffodil Motel sign shines into the night.
The motel sits along a stretch of Highway 99 between Federal Way and Tacoma that has changed little in the sixty odd years I’ve been traveling that road. Every time I pass by, I am instantly transported to the 1950s, sitting in the back seat of our 1948 Plymouth watching the world whiz by as we drove to our family dentist in Tacoma for a white-knuckled, fear filled appointment. Can I tell you I still have the same reaction to dentist appointments these days? But I go faithfully anyway.. hmmm I wonder what sedation dentistry is like.. naw I’m tough!

    Very nice shot, and nice to see that the old sign seems to be doing well. I can’t recall that I’ve seen floral neon like that, old or new.

    I hope there’s no relationship between the caramel apples yesterday and the trip to the dentist today. . . ; – }
