Pre-Tripping a School Bus in the Frosty Dark

Oh Baby, it’s cold outside! Stagnant air, temps below freezing and freezing fog…
Yesterday morning while retrieving a spray container of liquid de-icer (to de-ice my windshield, service door windows and driver’s side windows), I noticed how pretty the frosty windows in my school bus looked, so I took a shot with my cell phone, which I normally don’t post, because of quality. I was surprised at the lens flare created by the stop-load lights, I rather like that effect. By the time I was done with my twenty minute pre-trip (checking head, brake and back up lights, stop-load lights, turn signals, air brakes, emergency exit doors and hatches, tire inflation, horns, seats, step well, and more) my fingers and toes were numb. The same forecast is expected for today, even though it is cold, you’d be surprised at the number of students who show up to board the bus in t-shirts, shorts and no jacket… go figure. Cool has a price.

  1. I never really thought about how many and how big bus windows must be to defrost. I hear you about the kids and no coats! Starting with the two in my own house. Our day started out at -8F and didn’t get a whole lot better. December.

  2. brrrrr I am ready for spring! My kids were all anti coats.. then again.. their mom pretty much is too.. I am happy with a sweatshirt and a vest most of the time… maybe some mittens and a scarf. I can’t even imagine how long it must take to defrost the whole bus… wow. .. then again I can not imagine driving around that many kids… thank you so much!!
