Yakima Valley Wine on the Vine

Wine on the vine… Yakima County in south central Washington State is part of the premier wine producing region of the Columbia Valley. Around 11,000 acres are covered in vineyards in the Yakima Valley, some places where you’ll find vineyards and wineries in and around the valley are the Rattlesnake Hills, Horse Heaven Hills, Snipes Mountain, Red Mountain, Columbia Gorge and Piety Flats. Washington ranks second nationally in wine production, with over 700 wineries and 37,000 acres planted in vineyards. The number of acres in production has more than tripled since 1998. Western Washington also produces wine grapes, but it is only 1% of the total production in the state. The more commonly grown varietals are Riesling, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Chardonnay. This coming weekend is ‘Catch the Crush,’ event in Yakima Valley, beginning on September 24. Of the many growers and vintners in the Valley, fourteen vineyards will be offering special wine tasting events, harvest and crush activities, tours, live music, hors de’oeuvres. Sounds like a photo trip to Yakima Valley is in order, don’t you thinK?

    1. Thanks, Kim… you’re post really tickled me.. so sounds like our place. This morning I had to hide my hands under my pillow and pretend I was asleep to get my cat Gelly to leave me alone about four o’clock, she was hungry.

    1. Thanks, Kay… I haven’t been in California in about forty years… but I’d go for a warmer day or two, as well… if the weatherman isn’t pulling our leg, maybe tomorrow will be 70 degrees, I’ll take it! Won’t you??
