Stately, defensive, aware and hungry… An immature bald eagle, sits on the rocky shore of the Columbia River, defending the kill just made. As our national bird, the American Bald Eagle has made such a strong re-population in the United States that they were taken off the Federal List of Endangered Species on October 28, 2007. Here in the Seattle area, I see them often, weekly even, soaring aloft on a thermal, watching, waiting for an opportunity to kill a fish, rabbit, ducks or scavenged food.
They certainly are magnificent creatures Madge, deadly but necessary in the big picture. Fantastic capture!
Thanks, Grace… RPRTS (right place, right time shot)!
Ours are on a temporary leave of absence – they go to where the salmon run, and I won’t see one for a month or two.
I’m still seeing some around…
What a great capture!
Thanks, Randy….
Beautiful! Isn’t it amazing to get a shot close enough to see those gorgeous eyes? Our eagles are off on a salmon run, too.
Yes… it is a bit odd feeling when you’re close up and you are looking at each other… eyeball to eyeball so to speak!
