A renewed vintage advertising sign for ‘FRESH Eggs!’ at Aasten’s Grocery on Queen Anne Hill. Long gone these days, the grocery was built on the corner of Queen Anne Avenue and West Thomas Street and opened in 1926. The store also sold blackberries and vegetables grown in the family’s garden and the two young daughters delivered goods to homes around the Queen Anne neighborhood. The grocery store my family shopped in during the early 1950s and 1960s would be considered small by today’s mega store standards. I miss the comfortable feeling of knowing the employees, being greeted by name, and not having to walk a football field several times to purchase a loaf of bread, a dozen eggs and a gallon of milk. I still do not like the mega-grocery stores, but unfortunately they offer the best prices…I still shop in my somewhat smaller neighborhood grocery store when it is a savings for my family. Where do you shop?
Like most people I shop in a big supermarket. As someone who doesn’t much like shopping (i e – a man) I just like to get it done as quickly as possible. Nostalgia is strong stuff but not as potent as practicality and economics. But I like the photo!
I’m with you… I get in, get it and get out! I’m not a shopper either, but my husband is… go figure!! Lol!
I like the vintage sign. It is colorful and nostalgic. Sorry, our shopping is at big regional or national grocery stores. There are a few small grocers, but the selection is small and the prices are high.
I’m sorry that we are squeezed due to financial concerns and more or less must buy from the big box stores… I like doing business with the local retailers.
I shop at one of two grocery stores in my small town. Next year, Wally World comes to our quaint village, but I will not be shopping there.
I’m with you Nancy… I can count on one hand the number of shopping trips I’ve made to *!%*mart… I don’t like what they do to small communities nor how they treat their employees…
I do love a good graphic. Nice shot.
Thanks, Randy… I agree.. it is appealing! ;-)
I love homegrown signs like this one. Quirky and funny!
Me too, Meri! :-)
