Still basking in the hot August sun, spring wheat has reached maturity and awaits the combine to sweep, cut, thresh and then spew out the wheat berries through the un-loader pipe into a waiting farm truck for delivery to the grain elevator. The Palouse is the premier wheat growing region of Washington, encompassing most of the southeastern corner of the state as well as a portion of western Idaho.
The summer months are spent without a lot of activity, but when harvest time comes, the region throttles up to high gear and the combines run, often night and day to insure the harvest is brought in before any wet weather endangers the condition of the wheat.
The Palouse is one of my favorite places in Washington state. I have traveled here several times spending a week at a time driving and shooting images of farms, fields, churches, schools, cemeteries and towns. I hope to return to the Palouse again next Spring Break in April. There is something beautiful, peaceful and appealing about this region that draws me back again and again.
Great image!!:)

Thank you, Tanya… wheat is beautiful, isn’t it?
cool pics..they make everything come “alive”..i really like the wheat field one before the harvest-looks like something you’d find on a postcard. It would be fun to go picture taking with you and learn a few tricks when i am in town..whenever that may be…
Thanks, Vanessa… just call me when you are in town, I’d love to hangout and take a few photos with you! ;-)
Interesting angle to shoot from, Madge. I like it!
Thanks, Bruce… it always makes things more interesting if we can change things up a bit once in a while.
I love those images of the farm….brings back memories. :)
Thanks, Neal…I grew up on a farm, not a wheat farm though!
