Happy Dog… I’m a happy dog!! This…is Lucy, a year old Corgi-mix we adopted five months ago in March from ‘Homeward Pet’ shelter in Woodinville. Just prior to adopting Lucy, we had to put down our thirteen year old dog, Candy, such a sad and difficult day it was, and just a few days less than one year prior to that we had to put down Tootsie Pop, Candy’s mom at fourteen. The dog-less house was too quiet and the pain too deep to remain in that place so we began looking for a young dog to adopt. Scouring over the ads on www.petfinder.com we found an ad for ‘Sally.’ Arriving at the Homeward Pet Shelter before opening we found out another family was in line to adopt her before us. They brought their current dog into the shelter to see if ‘Sally’ and it would be compatible, but their dog did not like her. We sat waiting, somewhat sad that we had been aced out by another family, but then the shelter volunteer came to the waiting room telling us ‘Sally’ was again available for adoption, we were elated! After a play time with ‘Sally,’ we completed the adoption and were on our way home. My husband renamed her Lucy.  Her acceptance of her new name and us her new family was instant, seamless and comfortable. Yesterday was her first trip to the Pacific Ocean to play on the beach just north of Ocean Shores at Moclips.

We played until she was tired out, then she settled into the shade behind my husband’s beach chair while we ate our picnic lunch (shared, of course).  We relaxed for a while in the chilly sunshine flip-flops cast aside, but with zipped up hoodies. Chilly or not, we had such a good time.  School will be starting in less than two weeks, and my summer vacation is waning swiftly.  Yesterday was a delight!

  1. Madge I love your shot of Lucy watching the seagulls…it’s very expressive. We have two dogs right now, a great Dane and a beagle, my wife and daughter dogs. I love dogs and you capture her very well.

      1. The Dane is my wife’s and the beagle is my daughter’s. My buddy was George, a St. Bernard, who past away 2 years ago. My heart is still heavy with him gone. I want to get another dog but I am not quite ready. Lucy looks like a great girl…have fun with her.

  2. i, too, will never again survive a house without a dog in it. i lasted 3 days after our almost 15 yr old collie mix passed and couldn’t stand it any more and adopted a new soul. now i have multiple dogs so i’ll never be without one.

  3. Yesterday I was sitting on my porch and a woman walked by with two dogs. One was a big yellow dog, maybe a Labrador, with a thick ten-pound log in its mouth. It lugged that log down the street, perfectly contented. Some dogs have to have something in their mouths.
