M/V Wenatchee Sailing Away

A pristine white and green ferry sails across Elliott Bay toward Coleman Dock in downtown Seattle. Two passing seagulls are silhouetted against the late afternoon sky above the M/V Wenatchee. Washington has the largest domestic ferry fleet in the United States. The Wenatchee, along with the Puyallup and Tacoma are Jumbo Mark Class II ferries, able to carry 202 vehicles and 2,500 passengers, making them the largest ferries in the fleet and the second longest (at 460 feet) double ended ferries in the world. The Wenatchee services the Bainbridge Island/Seattle route. A trip by ferry is a favorite activity and one I engage as often as weather, time and money allow. Riding the ferry to a cross Sound or island location feels as if I’ve traveled a long way from home. ‘Well, it’s not far down to paradise, at least it’s not for me and if the wind is right you can sail away and find tranquility…’ Whose up for a ferry ride… me, Me, ME! Want to come along?
