Kayaking in the Summer Sun

Stroke..stroke.. keeping up a rhythm this young woman paddles her way underneath the Interstate 5 bridge which crosses Lake Union. During the summer months and warm weather you can almost walk across Lake Union stepping between, boats and kayaks. Surrounded by the city of Seattle, Lake Union is a very popular spot for those enthusiasts for water sports and boats. To the south is downtown and to the southwest is a spectacular view of the Space Needle. Lake Union connects Lake Washington to Puget Sound via two man-made canals, one to the east is the Montlake Cut and to the west is the Ship Canal and a bit further the locks in Ballard. It is a extraordinary sight, so much coming and going and hither and yon… and I enjoy every moment!

  1. It’s a long time time since I last tried kayaking! I remember loving the experience on the waters of Bobbin Head, New South Wales. I live by water now but prefer to be a spectator of water activities and/or walk the sands of the many beaches in my world!

  2. Hi Madge, Kayaking is pretty big in Perth too, they have it as part of the curriculum in school outdoor activities so they start young! I have really enjoyed looking at your photos and will be back for more.

    1. Thanks Grace… that would be an interesting school curriculum to include kayaking. Around here you see the most kayakers in the summer, but there are a few die-hards that paddle around all year.
