An neon Orca whale swims permanently over the Sound Community Bank in downtown Seattle. Here their main branch at Fifth Avenue and Lenora Street, this small community bank offers many of the perks we’ve all come to expect from our financial institutions – interest bearing free checking, online bill pay, direct deposit, low interest loans, 24/7 internet access, debit/credit cards etc. The bank has four other branches rather far flung from each other, Mountlake Terrace, Tacoma, Sequim and Port Angeles. If I wasn’t really happy with my credit union for banking, I think I might check them out. We bailed out of Washington Mutual a few months before they went belly up in 2008 having been incorporated as a bank in the State of Washington in 1889. Through faulty loan practices and other issues, the bank failed, it was the largest bank in the United States at the time. These days the smaller institutions seems to be more stable and financially sound than some of the larger banks, they have to be much more careful about the investments and loans that they make.  Sometimes I think the safety of our savings and investments is just an illusion, but one that we are all wont to hope and believe in.  What do you think about the stability of our money and or the impending default of the United States on its debt on August 2, 2011? Aside from that serious note… I do LOVE neon signs, this one is different than any other I’ve seen.. and I like it, you??

    1. Puget Sound (the large body of inland salt water connected our port cities of Tacoma, Seattle and Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada) to the Pacific Ocean is home to several resident pods of Orca Whales (or Killer Whales). Their likeness is displayed a lot around the whole northwest. Thanks for your visit!

Love the neon orca in the window. I plan on coming to Anancortes in June of 2012. Where did you get this orca? I would like to order one or two for myself. BIG ORCA Lover. Everything Orcas in my house.
