Just on the edge of downtown Seattle and also on the edge of Capitol Hill, you will find this record store, Sonic Boom. But not for long, on September 5, 2011, this location at 1525 Melrose will be closing their doors, leaving customers with a longer drive to shop in their Ballard store at 2209 N.W. Market St. All stock at the Capitol Hill store is 20% until the locations closes. Coming up in the Ballard store, a local band ‘Fences,’ will be performing in-store on July 26 at 6pm.
Seems to be a sign of the times everywhere, record stores closing. Same thing is happening in Vancouver, and our little burg here never had one to begin with.
So much can be purchased online for less and sometimes with free shipping ..people save anywhere they can to the detriment of many small businesses. Too bad, we all lose much in the end…
Sad to see this shop go; another victim of this economy and online purchasing era. Oddly enough, we had to replace a turntable to listen to our old LP’s. LOL, LP’s, turntables, most don;t know about those these days.
It is sad.. our communities become less in character and variety with each small business that goes under..and you are right many young people would know how to listen to music if it isn’t delivered through headphones. LOL!
