A collaborative effort between the Seattle Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs and the Seattle Parks and Recreation to bring avant garde art out of the galleries into the public areas around the city. Beginning in June, eleven displays of art by local artists will bring a sense of playfulness for tourists and locals alike to appreciate. This is the first display by local artist Suzanne Tidwell, exhibited in the Occidental Park located in the Pioneer district of south downtown Seattle. Caught here at dusk, the colorful knitted ‘tree coats’ almost glow in the waning light. When I first saw this, I thought it was a bit odd, but it has grown on me and I like it for its whimsy. What do you think about odd/interesting displays of public art??
Lovely photo, I like the bright colours amongst the greenery and the stone square.

Hi Madge,
I really love how the colors just pop out in your shot. Very nicely done.
@ Chrissy and Bruce – Thanks for your visit and your thoughtful comments!
LOVE it! Wish I could see it in person! :P
@ Sally – Hey girlfriend… so glad to see you come by for a look around!
your photos really make me want to visit seattle! what a creative piece this is! i would never have thought to knit scarves for trees :)
Gives knitting as obsession a whole new level! I love them = they are beautiful and playful too! Any plans for a group project? There are lots of knitters north of the border who would be happy to joint!
Very colorful and whimsical presentation of “yarn bombing.” Cool catch.
unusual – I’ve seen bridges adorned with knitted items before but not trees.
Oh, it’s beautiful! The colors really do almost glow! Such a great picture! :-)
Nice picture Madge. I love the idea of bringing art and craft into the public places for all to enjoy. I am also very glad that Seattle is keeping it’s trees warm, even if it is summer.
Thanks, Reed… our summer (until the last two weeks) has been colder and wetter, so the trees really needed the sweaters… wink, wink! ;-)
The only thing more perfect then natures own……are these decorated trees!! Love them!!
