A Murder of Crows at Play

Corvids – Crows, ravens, jays and magpies, some of the most intelligent birds in the world. A team of wildlife biologists at the University of Washington, headed up by John Marzluff, have been studying the local Seattle crow population for more than twenty years. The have found crows have two sets of language, one for long distance community communication and one more intimate to talk to their families. These scientists now know that crow parents pass information on to their offspring and the offspring use that information without ever having had the first hand experience of their parents. Crows fit well into our urban societies, not only surviving but thriving along side of us. Perhaps you too, find crow watching to be interesting, I’ve been watching them with interest for many years. Only now to find they’re watching us with interest as well, and recognize us as friend or foe. Fascinating creatures, entertaining to watch.
