Our forests and woods
here in east Lewis County
in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains
are daily filled with drifting fog and low slung clouds.

Here,
looking up a 150′ hill,
the gully which cuts through these trees
is backlit by the morning light,
both diffuse and ethereal.
There is a seasonal stream
which flows through this gully
and crashes,
rushes,
and falls
down this almost vertical rock face
to race into the Tilton River just 40′ away from its base,
where it joins the often high and turbulent water
flowing westward toward its confluence
with the Cowlitz River near Mossyrock.

Yes, there are a number of places I visit often, we live in a very rural area in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains in southwest Washington state, so it’s a long drive to anywhere.
