A Touch of Color

Vine Maple along Skate Creek

Autumn : au·tumn : ôdəm : [noun] : the third season of the year, when crops and fruits are gathered and leaves fall, lasting from autumnal equinox to the winter solstice.

:  :  :

While the autumnal equinox is still three days away,

I am looking forward to this

change of season.

Our summer here was rather cool and much more rainy,

not good for my vegetable garden,

but great for the forests

in the surrounding

foothills.

This past week,

I took a 40 mile drive to Packwood

and then up Skate Creek Road for a ways;

looking for any change in foliage from the

greens of summer to

autumn splendor.

:  :  :

A few Broad Leaf Maple leaves were beginning to turn slightly yellow.

The Cottonwood trees leaves look as if they are

browning instead of turning yellow,

perhaps this autumn will not be one

full of natural glory,

but I am still

hoping

so.

:  :  :

The only bit of fall color I found

was deep in a canyon along Skate Creek

where this very small Vine Maple had turned

shades of scarlet.

What about you,

any color in your

area yet?

Blessings,

Hello Madge! It’s good to see you still blogging and thanks for dropping by Sequim Daily Photo (I’m into my 9th year now, unbelievably). We have trees around here that are turning color, though some of them seem more stressed than doing anything seasonal. Seems like our best and warmest days came too early to benefit our garden much. It’s been a bust this year. And now the days are getting shorter and shorter…
