This past week,

my husband and I drove up Peterman Hill

just southwest of Morton, WA.

Peterman Hill Road used to climb

over the 2500′ Peterman Hill

and back down into the valley below

to the small town of Riffe, WA,

which was inundated by the damming

of the Cowlitz River.

In the mid 1960s

Tacoma Power took the land by imminent domain

so they could build both the Mossyrock and Mayfield dam

s to provide power for the city of Tacoma.

There was the least hint of fall color in some underbrush,

but the Alder trees have already been stripped

to bare limbs by the late fal

l wind and rain.

My husband and I are off

to buy our Christmas tree

this morning.

Joy!

Blessings Always,
