Before all the colorful leaves

flutter to the ground not to be enjoyed again

for another yearly lap through the four seasons,

I wanted to share this view.

Here just a few feet off Davis Lake Road,

Temple Road has this little used railroad crossing.

Looking east across the narrow valley

that the small logging town of Morton, WA sits in,

you can see the higher Cascade Mountain foothills

that Randle and Packwood are nestled in.

This early morning a week or so ago,

the ground fog had yet to burn off

and valley still looks hazy

in its quiet

peacefulness.

I drove in to Napavine

to go with my sister to pick mushrooms on Friday.

Most all of the trees along Highway 508

already had bare limbs and

look like winter.

She drove us to Capitol Forest to pick Chanterelle mushrooms,

she found a half pound or so, I found none.

It was my first time hunting them.

I found lots of other kinds of unidentified mushrooms

and spotted scads of orange Salal leaves,

but nary a Chanterelle!

Crawling through the Salah,

over and around downed tree trunks,

I quickly discovered that my asthma wasn’t going to allow me

to breathe sufficiently enough to do that,

so I walked up and down the logging road instead,

peering over, under and around the underbrush

looking for those elusive

tasty bits!

Have a blessed Lord’s Day!

Blessings Always,
