Ru·ral lane : ˈro͝orəl lān : [noun] : a narrow road, in the countryside rather than the town.

Today,
I spent a couple hours with my sister,
driving through Boistfort (pronounced ‘Baw Faw’) in Lewis County.
Raining intermittently,
with lots of low slung, wispy, white clouds softly touching the valley floor,
we took quite a few photos in spite of the wetness.

But yesterday,
I drove to Chehalis to run errands
and it was probably the last sunny fall day
with vibrant colored leaves still clinging to the tree limbs
for the season.
: : :
The overnight hard rain knocked so many vivid leaves out of the trees,
that by this morning many trees were stripped bare.
I do so wish that fall would last the whole season from September to December,
but alas, it does not.

Here on a dead-end lane off Highway 508,
I was able to capture some of the last glory
of the Broad Leaf Maple trees.
So sorry to see them go so soon,
I’ll miss them until
fall next year!

Fabulous! I adore country lanes – and the leaves just add such beauty.
Yes, me too! One interesting thing about rural east Lewis County, is almost all side roads are dead ends, I’ve never lived someplace where you can only go a couple or a few miles on a road and there it is ‘End of County Maintained Road,’ sign, right in front of you and a turn around! Makes for double viewing up and back!
‘Tis indeed a fine photograph of autumn’s end…scattered leaves of all colors littering the ground. Must have been a nice ride into winter’s door while knowing that winter will end and new life will begin and it’s all just around the corner…enjoy each day and the beauty it brings.
Yes, most trees are naked here at our 1000 foot elevation now, the wind and rain have stripped them bare, but it was glorious for a few short weeks! And gratitude is the root of joy!
The low viewpoint works well here. It’s a beautiful time of year, which in the UK seems to get later, and hang around longer, each year.
Hi John, I need to pop by your blog and see what you’re up to! We had an extremely dry (very unusual weather for the west side of the Cascade Mountains in British Columbia, Washington and Oregon) so our fall colors were spectacular! Not much mushroom picking this year though, too dry.
I love that scene. This kind of road is one I would love to check out.
